Netgear devices with firewalls have two default rules: Nevertheless, users can effectively disable a Netgear router firewall just by adding a rule or two to the firewall configuration. In fact, it is such a bad idea that Netgear does not even make a button in their GUI that does this. I think the netgear router automatically goes into that mode when I tell it to use a L:P to login or maybe I have to tell it someplace else.In most cases, disabling the firewall on a Netgear router is a really bad idea. They said I need to tell the netgear router to go into PPPOE mode.

I called tech support because the line was down and I got some more info from them but they didnt get it to work all the way. Do I plug that into netgear or tell netgear to get it automatically from the ISP? I am supposed to have a static IP from bellsouth. Since the netgear is no longer getting automatic info from the DSL Router, I guess I have to put in the settings.įor gateway, should I put the IP of the DSL router (192.168.1.254) or should I put the gateway thats listed on the DSL Router login page when its working as a router (65.14.252.30) When its in bridge mode, does it still do that for me, or will the netgear have to log in for me?

I do need to log in with my name password but the DSL router did that automatically. I can also turn off DHCP from the DSL Router. I fiddled around with the settings and found a way to change the DSL router from PPPOE mode to Bridge mode. If all else fails, I will try the netgear disabled DHCP thing but I have several devices on my network that might not work well using the DSL modem as the router.

In order for me to access my HTTPS bank website, I need to disconnect the netgear, and connect my macbook pro directly into the DSL Modem/router which is extremely inconvienant. The DSL Modem/router has only 1 ethernet port and its hardwired to my Netgear router. There were a few options that I am not familiar with but I tried one at a time and none worked to give me access to my banks HTTPS website.Ģ) Port Forwarding 443 from the DSL Modem to the Netgear Routerģ) Disabling DHCP from the DSL Modem/router The configuration menu is retardedly simple - so I would prefer to use my Netgear router as a router and disabled NAT from this DSL Modem/router if possible. Thanks for the idea! I tried accessing 192.168.1.124 and I got the DSL Modem/Router configuration page - no password or login - View image here:. I tried punching a hole in port 443 by forwarding it directly to the macbook pro internal IP but it didnt help. It might be easier to disable the netgear firewall but I didnt see an obvious way to disable it all together. Since all my connections go through the NAT enabled router, I dont see a need to have a firewall in the DSL Modem as well, but India-based tech support for Bell South DSL had no interest in helping me do this. Since I can access the site through the DSL modem itself, but not through the router using the DSL as the gateway - then I am going to guess that the combination of the two hardware firewalls causes a delay that makes this connection time out.

Can anyone give me ideas?
